Shiny New Author Page

Post Views: 600 Howdy, folks. I’ve given up on Facebook for trying to stay in touch with folks interested in my writing. Unless I’m willing to pony up about $100 per month, the best I can hope is that 10% of the folks following my “Sauder” facebook page will see it. Twitter, in general is very hit or miss about who of the ~550+ followers get to see my posts.  My guess is that it’s about 10%, tops. So, the first step is that I’ve rearranged my blogsite here, to have an “Author / Book Information Page” that will have info in one place about the various novels and novellas I have written or am writing.  You can find that at the “Author / Book Information Page” menu item up…

Game System Review – Storium

Post Views: 736 What’s This About Storium? Good question, and I’m afraid the answer isn’t too terribly short. If you are used to “play by email” (PBEM) role-playing games (RPGs), or are used to doing collaborative writing with one or two other authors, then Storium will be very familiar. On the other hand, if you are used to Collectable Card Game systems (CCGs) where you have cards with abilities that you play to defeat and / or neutralize an opponent, then Storium will also feel a bit familiar. The problem is that’s its sort of both of those things at once, but not really either of them. There is a Narrator, who is sort of — but not really — the “Game Master” for those familiar with RPGs.…

On Just Being Amazon

Post Views: 303 “At least it’s a good reason and not just Amazon being Amazon.” – Seen on Twitter I saw that come across my Twitter feed this morning, and it gave me pause. Mostly because I wasn’t sure what it meant. I know that Amazon is reknowned within Internet pop-culture for being both secretive and autocratic in it’s operations. They Just Do Stuff, often in a fashion that seems counter-intuitive to both common sense and “popular opinion”. I know that Amazon’s owner, Jeff Bezos, has pretty much run the traditional publishing model off a cliff in the past decade. From everything that I’ve read, it pretty much seems a case of “since they wouldn’t let him join them, he decided to beat them”. I know that the Interwebs…

The Ten Line Review

Post Views: 183 One of the issues that folks seem to have with writing a review is a feeling that they’re not qualified to do so, or don’t know how. On the first point, if you read and you know what you like, then you’re qualified. You have an opinion, and as I discussed in “Your friend left you a note“, your opinion helps everyone. On the second point, let me take a few minutes to explain how to write a “ten line review.” It’s simple a formula, but it gives folks behind you a sense of who you are and what you think of the book, and it also means you don’t have to spend an hour writing. What genre of book is this and do you…

More Technology of “The Sauder Diaries” – A Steampunk Dragon; What’s Not To Like?

Post Views: 468 Introduction This is the third part of a three-part set answering this Question From the Audience. So, without further ado, allow me to continue on discussing the various technologies that Hans encounters and uses, and evaluate “The Reasonable Plausibility Level” (RPL) of each. Science and Technology of “The Sauder Diaries – By Any Other Name” The “Dragon” One of the most memorable scenes in “The Sauder Diaries – By Any Other Name” is the dragon attack in the chapter titled “A Quiet Little Town”: “It came into view at the lighted edge of town, lumbering out of the night. The lights of the town glinted off its armoured hide as it advanced. It was easily two heights of a man to its shoulder, if not three, and double that…

Author Interview – Alison DeLuca of the “Crown Phoenix” Series

Post Views: 196 MRV: Hi, Alison! Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk with me and the readers at Split Horizons. ADL: Thanks so much for hosting me, Michel! It’s a beautiful site.   MRV: I don’t usually do author interviews, but I understand you’ve hit a special milestone. You’ve got your third book in your “Crown Phoenix” series out. Can you tell us how that feels to you? ADL: Fantastic – unbelievable! And, it also makes me want to work harder. I’m close to the end of the final book in the four-part series, so I’m concentrating on the work ahead. Once that book, the South Sea Bubble, is up, I’ll have a host of other projects that have been tugging at my sleeve for the past year. I think…

Your friend left you a note

Post Views: 169 So imagine you’re at your favorite indie bookstore (… you have a favorite indie bookstore, right?) and you pick up a spiffy new release that has good artwork, a compelling blurb and a quick glance inside says the writing by the author seems solid. Might be worth picking up, do you think? What if you found a note taped to the front cover from your “Best Friend Forever” (BFF) that said “OMG, read this over the w/e & it RAWKED… the main character is hawt, the action is ZOMG, the description is like a movie in my mind and I sooooo cannot wait for the next one! Get it! You’ll <3 it!” … Beyond the part where you might be questioning your friend’s sudden lapse into…
