Author Interview – Amanda Cherry

Post Views: 196 MRV: Hi, Mandy! Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk with me and the readers at Split Horizons. AC: Thank you so much for the opportunity! I am always thrilled for the chance to chat with fellow authors and connect with readers. MRV: I don’t usually do author interviews, but I understand you’ve had a bit of a special collaboration with this novella. Can you tell us how it happened, and how that feels to you? AC: Yes. This book has been the absolute wildest ride. Four years ago (!) our editor at DefCon One proposed an anthology where those of us with pet/favorite heroes would team up with one another to write short stories featuring those heroes teaming up—the more unlikely the pair, the better.…

“Afterliving for Guys” — Cover Reveal & Pre-Order Announcement

Post Views: 248 Hello, everyone! I’m very happy to show off the eBook cover for my new novel, “Afterliving for Guys“, a paranormal romance set in a fictional city on the Florida Gulf Coast known to its residents colloquially as “Glitter City”. In the summer of 1996, an innocent woman is murdered in a graveyard and less-than-innocent arms-dealer is murdered on their yacht, resulting in an unlikely alliance between an infamous member of the Vampire Secret Police, and a Nun from Vatican Special Forces. In the neon-and-shadow nights of Glitter City, no one can be trusted, and the lies and manipulations abound. Can Gabriel Lafleche, known by those who fear him as ‘The Fist’, and Sister Adrielle Seton, his partner-of-convenience, figure out what’s going on before counter-plots and…

Writestorm 2022 Continued

Post Views: 250 Since a picture is worth a thousand words, plus or minus an ALT tag: The tentative title is “to Arise In the Fall“; It’s not perfect, but it’s got the right vibe. This one almost came out too fast. I’m going to need to let it sit for a couple days and then go back over it for all the “senses” stuff that should be in scenes. But, the core story is there, including the two primary conflicts; internal and external. So I’m figuring it’ll pick up another ten thousand or so words. I usually multi-pass everything to the point where first draft is just a spell check and a grammar check away from being last draft. I do a couple of read-alouds looking for…

Stupid Author Geek Tricks

Post Views: 610 I am super fussy about time in my writing. I hate a sense that time isn’t a factor in the stories I write. With time, comes cycles; tides, moons, who is on shift, when’s the poker-gang meeting and such. With “Afterliving for Guys”, time is especially important; most of the main characters are vampires. They’re dead in short order if their watch is wrong. To help with keeping track of the movement of time, I actually wrote a simple Ruby-script program to let me keep moving the clock and calendar forward. It’s pretty straightforward; you give it a start point, and then a series of time increments to move the clock forward, and if it should introduce some “fuzz” so that times are much less…

Writestorm 2022

Post Views: 356 I have been working on a new novel this year. My last one, “the Ironclad Exile“, was released in February of 2018 and I really haven’t had anything to say since. I started plinking at this one as a result of weird dream I had and recalled when I woke up, back towards the end of last December. In fact, I wrote the Prologue on Christmas Eve. I did a bunch of browsing Pintrest for inspiration, but the words were just sort of stuck for the next couple of months. So, I set it aside. On the 25th of June, I knew what I was supposed to be writing. I had the meta-concept solid in my head, who the protagonists were, and my writing compass…

For Me, Tablo Is A Dead End

Post Views: 2,432 I’ve been working on two stories on Tablo, the free-to-read and help-to-publish website that is rather good to use. As I say over on my Author Info page, they are a pair of novellas;  the first one, titled “EMC-Squared” is going through the artwork & editing stage.  The second one, titled “the Juliet Gambit“, at the time of this blog post is in the first-draft / work-in-progress stage. Over all, for a “live beta”, the service is pretty good.  There are a few annoying quirks, such as status pages that don’t reflect current stats, or “BookWorm” values that seem fixed in place for days at a time, regardless of other information on the site telling you differently.  I’m a Safari web browser user, since I…
